SAN DIEGO – Rep. Darrell Issa is in for a raucous recess week in CA-49 as voters clamor for answers on the impact of the Republican budget plan on average citizens. Despite being in a “district work week”, Issa failed to host an in-person town hall and has yet to accept the invitation of constituents who rented a hall in Oceanside to accommodate him. From mobile billboards to an airplane flyover to a 20’ chicken, District 49 is determined to encourage its representative to take questions on a federal budget that impacts all of our lives.

Three mobile billboards are cruising throughout District 49 from 9 – 5 today, engaging voters to urge Rep. Darrell Isssa to attend the October 17 Oceanside Town Hall on the federal budget and to vote against tax breaks for the wealthy. One will stop at the Carlsbad Mall to join a mini-rally of constituents who have questions for Issa on how the federal budget will impact them.

San Diego County Indivisible joins the Democratic Woman’s Club of San Diego in sponsoring a talk and Q & A session with Delaine Eastin, former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Eastin, a former city councilor and state assemblywoman, is the only woman running for governor of California.

Constituents of Rep. Darrell Issa will ask him to not be “chicken” and to attend the voters’ town hall on the budget on Tuesday evening. A 20’ high inflatable chicken will underscore the voters’ request. Citizens will also protest the Republican plan to shift the federal tax burden from wealthy to middle class taxpayers while cutting essential services to Americans in need. An airplane will fly over the rally for 45 minutes with a banner reading “Not One Penny in Tax Cuts 4 Issa & the 1%”.

Money Talks: A Town Hall on the Federal Budget

Rep. Darrell Issa has been invited to attend a citizens’ town hall on the federal budget. Budget proposals by Trump and the Republican Congress would have a significant impact on District 49 citizens, as massive amounts of federal money are redistributed from vital programs like Medicare and Medicaid to fund tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy. Boondoggle immigration spending on detention facilities and the border wall will also be addressed, as these GOP priorities impact our region. The event is scheduled during a district work week to enable Issa to directly engage with constituents. It is hosted by 49th District Action Council, Health Access California and the North County Immigration Task Force.
