AT INDIVISIBLE PROTEST OF HEALTH CARE VOTE IN FLORIDA
May 8, 2017

SARASOTA, FL – Fresh off casting the deciding vote for the American Health Care Act, Rep. Darrell Issa drew protesters to a swanky fundraiser in Sarasota, Florida today. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan headlined the $1000/person event. Indivisible members protested the fundraiser by land and sea, with singers on the street and kayaks on the waterfront.
Issa spoke to the local ABC affiliate, defended his AHCA vote and claimed he often holds town halls. When pressed, he promised to hold a town hall in his district a couple of days after he returns from his fundraising tour.
This is big news to his constituents in District 49, who are incensed by his AHCA vote. Issa has held only one true town hall this year, in Oceanside. On two other occasions, he spoke to protestors who gather by the hundreds each week outside his Vista office. Voters do not consider these unannounced standouts to be “town halls” because they exclude many who cannot participate during school and workday mornings.
Here are San Diego Indivisible’s events for the week of May 8, 2017.
